The 10-Minute Morning Habit That Changes Your Entire Day
Do you check social media before even getting out of bed? This simple 10-minute morning reset can help you refocus your mind, your priorities, and your faith.
I’m Talking to Myself Here
Let me be honest.
This post is me calling myself out.
As an influencer and a podcaster, it has become almost automatic for me to reach for my phone the second I wake up. Sometimes I don’t even make it to my morning pee ritual before checking Instagram.
It’s such an easy habit to fall into.
And the truth is, it’s not the best way to start the day—especially when I haven’t even spent ten minutes grounding myself first, or opening my Bible.
So I’ve been reminding myself of something simple.
Not a complicated life overhaul.
Just ten intentional minutes before social media.
The 10-Minute Morning Reset
You don’t need a 90-minute morning routine.
You don’t need cold plunges, complicated planners, or a perfectly curated sunrise routine.
You just need ten minutes before you touch social media.
Here’s the simple reset I’m committing to.
Minute 1–3: Move Your Body (and Step Into the Light)
Start by moving your body a little.
Stretch. Walk around. Shake out the sleep.
For me personally, this usually looks like back stretches on a foam roller. Years as a Division 1 athlete and a few too many surgeries later, my body definitely reminds me in the mornings. So those quick stretches help loosen everything up before the day starts.
If possible, step outside or get yourself into natural sunlight, even if it’s cloudy.
Morning light helps reset your body’s circadian rhythm, the internal clock that tells your brain when to wake up, focus, and wind down later at night.
Even a few minutes of natural light can:
boost energy
improve mood
signal your brain that the day has started
help regulate sleep patterns later
It’s one of the simplest ways to wake your body up without reaching for your phone.
Minute 4–6: Read Something That Grounds You
For me, this is my Bible.
Before the notifications.
Before the reels.
Before the noise of the world.
Just a few minutes of truth and perspective.
It helps remind me what actually matters before the day starts pulling my attention in every direction.
Minute 7–10: Set Your Intentions for the Day
Write down three priorities.
Not a giant overwhelming to-do list.
Just three things that would make the day feel meaningful.
I often jot these down right in the notes section on my phone or in my calendar, mapping out my schedule and goals for the day so I can clearly see what needs to get done.
Taking a couple minutes to do this gives your mind direction before the world starts demanding your attention.
Why Most Morning Routines Fail
Let’s be honest.
Most routines fail because they’re way too complicated.
Wake up at 5 AM.
Cold plunge.
Meditate for 20 minutes.
Workout for an hour.
Journal five pages.
Read a book.
That’s not a routine.
That’s a second job.
The reason a 10-minute reset works is simple.
You’ll actually do it.
Consistency beats complexity every time.
The Real Rule: No Social Media for 10 Minutes
Here’s the real challenge.
Don’t open Instagram for the first ten minutes of your day.
Just ten.
Not thirty.
Not an hour.
Ten minutes of space before the algorithm starts deciding what you think about.
Because once the scrolling starts, your attention is no longer yours.
The feed is running the show.
Tomorrow Morning
Tomorrow morning I’m trying something different.
Before Instagram.
Before messages.
Before the scroll.
Ten minutes.
A little movement.
A little sunlight.
A little Scripture.
A little intention.
Ten minutes might not seem like much.
But it might be enough to take our mornings back.
And when we take back our mornings…
We take back our days.
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
— Proverbs 16:3
